Project Description

The 9-month project was to construct a first floor extension to Franklin college over existing ground floor classroom areas to extend facilities of the Learning resource centre, including new fire escape stairwell and refurbishment to the surrounding ground and first floor areas all whilst the college remained operational throughout, with minimal areas closed off for construction alterations.

Works included demolition of the existing ground floor precast concrete roof structure and installing new foundations and steelwork structure through and above the existing ground floor and structural alterations to open the existing first floor areas into the new extension and projecting out to form new canopy with angled steelwork to form a sloping feature façade with SFS walls and curtain wall glazing framed with white rendered walls.

Internal works including new offices and study rooms and quiet learning areas. New café area with kitchen units and feature walls and new disable toilet. New electrical systems of lighting, power, data, fire alarm and security systems and new mechanical systems air conditioning and heating and ventilation systems.

The project also included extensive refurbishment works to the ground floor and first floor forming new offices, new glazed partitions, new flooring and decoration works with oak panelling and coloured decoration works. Flooring consisting of carpet tiles, luxury vinyl tiles and non-slip vinyl were installed.

External works consisted of forming of block paved access path to front doors and paving slabs to side doors.
