Project Description

The project consisted of the construction of a major substation to power the new Siemens wind turbine facility on Alexandra Dock in Hull. Built off a reinforced concrete raft foundation with an internal raised concrete floor on metal deck supported by internal blockwork walls forming the duct and cable trenches. External walls were traditional masonry built with a traditional timber trussesd steel tiled roof. Internally cable trenches were fitted with lightweight GRP flooring panels. Galvanised stairs and concrete landings where constructed externally to provide access to the doors.

Externally works included the construction of reinforced concrete transformer pens with 4m high blast walls with palisade fencing completing the enclosures.

External ducting with cable turning pits, deep surface water drainage, palisade fencing, kerbing macadam, stone and gravel areas completed the works.
