Project Description

A £3.6m Design & Build contract to construct a new three-storey classroom block complete with various associated external works at Healing Science Academy in North East Lincolnshire.

The project comprises of a 2700m2 new-build element providing eighteen academic classrooms, a large school library, special educational needs facilities and various staff and welfare amenities. External works including a large colonnade extension to the gym building, external shelters, and extensive landscaping were also incorporated as a part of a separate full-plans application.

A sustainable construction was achieved with the compilation of a dynamic thermal model which successfully proved a naturally ventilated building could be achieved within the scope of the new design by utilising solar control glass, brise soleil and a bespoke dual opening window system throughout the building. Additionally Solar Photovoltaic panels were incorporated within the expansive roof structure providing energy capable of supplying the new build.

This striking scheme has been well received by the Academy Staff, Board of Governors and more importantly the pupils.
